Alan Sheppard
Alan Sheppard's musical journey began at the age of ten. Just a year later, he won gold at Barbados' National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA), performing his own composition, The End of the World, on guitar and vocals.
A self-taught musician with perfect pitch, Alan is best known as the frontman and lead singer of the celebrated Caribbean band Spice and Company. Over the decades, his music has crossed genres and generations, exploring themes of love, equality, human rights, the environment, and, of course, bringing people together through music.
A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, Alan has embraced everything from traditional acoustic instruments to electronic music production. His creativity also extends beyond music into visual art and design.
The Story Behind Have a Beautiful Day
Sometimes, the most uplifting songs are born during life's most difficult moments.
Alan began writing Have a Beautiful Day while recovering from surgery and navigating a challenging personal period.
Staying with friends and family at a villa on the west coast of Barbados, he picked up an old acoustic guitar. As he played, a simple rhythm and melody began to emerge - bringing an unexpected sense of comfort and optimism.
Months later, back in his home studio, Alan recorded the song using a tenor ukulele given to him by his daughter Jasmine as a Father's Day gift.
What began as a personal moment of healing became something with a much wider message.
Even when life is difficult, we still have a choice. We can choose kindness.
Through Have a Beautiful Day, Alan hopes to remind us that a small gesture, a little compassion, or a moment of generosity can make a lasting difference in someone else's life.
Have a listen. Share the kindness. Have a Beautiful Day.
